Sometimes we all just need a fresh start. What helps you “reset”?
For me creating a routine that helps me feel grounded is the key to “resetting” after losing motivation or getting off track from my goals. It’s taken a lot of trial and error, but what I’ve found is the following: I need to feel organized physically and mentally.. if there’s physical clutter it also becomes mental clutter. I make sure my home is completely organized and I take care of anything that’s been hanging over my head. I make sure I commit to meditating daily even if it’s just 5-10min. That definitely helps me “organize” my thoughts and I make decisions with a clearer mind.
I take out inflammatory foods (goodbye champagne and french fries). I stick to cooking at home and make sure to buy all kinds of different teas to switch it up. I make sure I plan my workouts in advance. Luckily, I love love working out so setting up my schedule with a variety of workouts excites me and helps me get back on track. Lastly, I open a book that reminds me that the universe has my back!
What types of things help you look and feel at your best?
I’ve tried EVERYTHING.. and what works for me may not work for someone else. Intermediate fasting has been a game changer for me. I choose a 6 hour window each day (I allow myself to be a lot more flexible during the weekend) to eat. I eat the same amount as if I would throughout a normal day, I just constrict the time. It has allowed my body to properly digest what I intake, and also prevents me from eating out of boredom or stress. I use to be bloated
24/7 and fasting has alleviated that. I eat whole foods and lean protein, I mainly stick to eggs and salmon with all kinds of veggies which I make sure not to eat raw. I also make sure to stay active every day, the combination of Lagree, spin, and hot yoga are my go to.
Let’s talk about Food! What’s your favorite restaurant and your favorite meal to cook at home?
I basically eat the same thing everyday! Every morning I have my protein smoothie. I blend frozen organic strawberries, and wild blueberries with grass-fed collagen peptide protein powder, spirulina, cacao powder, maca powder, and cinnamon. I then sprinkle coconut shavings, cocoa nibs, and hemp seeds on top. My go to lunch
is sautéed veggies (kale, sweet potatoes, zucchini, brussels sprouts, cabbage, spinach etc) in olive oil, I then top it with either an egg or piece of salmon. I’ll add beets, avocado, sunflower seeds, garbanzo beans and maybe a dollop of sprouted hummus (my favorite is Majestic Sprouted Hummes Cayenne). I’ll add variety by switching the veggies and toppings. I also love cooking quinoa… I use bone broth instead of water to cook it and I throw in whatever veggies I have in the fridge! It makes such an easy and quick meal. One of my favorite places to eat is Harvest By The
Patio, it’s a health conscious, sustainably- sourced food restaurant located near East Village. I get the Seven summits bowl which has roasted squash, sweet potato, charred red Onion, lentils, kale, spinach, cabbage, roasted red pepper dressing in a bed of quinoa and I add pan seared salmon. YUM!
What’s something we don’t know about you? What do you do for fun outside of the studio?
I love traveling with intention. Most of the trips I plan are around mediation centers. It feels really rewarding to work on myself and bring light and awareness to areas in my life that I may not even know that need to be healed. I enjoy all kinds of meditations especially active ones where you shake, dance, or chant. I make sure I plan at least one constructive trip a year. I love staying active so if it’s not a big trip it’s probably a short trip near San Diego or a fun hike.
